Absolut on the beach
Fun, fresh…and flirty!
Written by: Scott vAn Dort
The Sex on the Beach is a flamboyant creation dating from 1980s Florida – a triumph of glitz, kitsch and flavor.
The classic recipe marries zesty orange, tart cranberries, and sweet peach liquor for sheer sunset in a glass. We’ve taken it for a spin, opting for a clean canvas of Absolut Vodka to allow the tropical flavors to take center stage. We call it Absolut on the Beach.

Add a twist
The Absolut on the Beach cocktail is beautifully simple, and a few tweaks to the recipe can transform your drink.
- To elevate the orange notes, swap your base vodka for Absolut Mandrin. Or, if you want the tart flavor of cranberry to come through, skip the orange juice, and you’ve got yourself a Woo-Woo.
- If you’re dreaming of palm trees and sand between your toes, add a splash of pineapple juice. Or if you prefer things on the sweeter side, add some peach purée.
- And when it comes to garnishes, it always pays to twist the kaleidoscope. We’ve stuck with classic lime wheel and a fresh cherry in our drink recipe, but why not try grapefruit or orange slices?
Common questions
Still looking for tips and inspiration for Absolut On The Beach? We’ll leave you with these common questions.
While there are different opinions over its origin, many attribute it to the lively bar scene in Florida during the 1980s. Some say the drink was created in response to a brand promotion encouraging the use of its peach liqueur in cocktails, and that the provocative name was chosen to attract tourists in the area.
Once you know how to make a Sex on the Beach, making a Woo Woo is a breeze. Sex on the Beach is made up of vodka, cranberry, orange juice and peach liqueur – you just need to sub out the orange juice to get the party classic Woo Woo. While the ingredients are very similar, Sex on the Beach is orange and tart but the Woo Woo is red and unapologetically sweet.
It may have been at its prime in the 1980s, but Sex on the Beach is still a go-to for many cocktail connoisseurs today. Its simple formula makes it an easy one to whip out at beach bars and summer soirées alike.
