A Tribute to Australia with Baz Luhrmann  

In 2014, we launched Absolut Oz, a local limited-edition vodka bottle, celebrating the magnificence Australia, the great southern land down under. 

And who better to team up with than the legendary Aussie director Baz Luhrmann? Luhrmann served as the visionary behind Absolut’s inaugural limited edition bottle celebrating Australia. His creative genius was pivotal in capturing the essence of the land down under in Absolut Oz.  

At the time, Luhrmann was deeply immersed in the final stages of his feature film set in the 1920s prohibition era. His work seamlessly blended the allure of this historical era with a unique Australian flair.  

A celebration of equality   

“Absolut Oz is a distillation of the unifying truth that we are all equal under the sun,” said Baz Lhurmann. “While creating the drinks which feature and celebrate Absolut Oz, we reflected on that moment when the sun dips below the horizon and, as we say in the movies, the magic hour is upon us.”  

Lhurmann’s sentiment aligns with the country’s values: freedom, respect, fairness, and equality of opportunity.  

A taste of Oz 

Absolut Oz was a flavored vodka with the taste of spiced orange. 

Australia is the 12th largest producer globally. Oranges, with their vibrant hue and sun-drenched flavor, perfectly represent Australia. Thriving under the country’s warm climate and abundant sunshine, these juicy fruits mirror the lively spirit and natural beauty of the land.  

More than that, oranges can also be seen to symbolize equality. In Australia, oranges thrive in diverse climates.  The widespread cultivation and universal enjoyment of oranges reflect equality and unity in the country’s multicultural society, making the bottle’s spiced orange flavored vodka particularly significant.
