National Tequila Day: 3 Classic Tequila Drinks Made with Vodka
Mark your calendars for July 24, because it’s National Tequila Day. It’s the day where people in the U.S. and elsewhere around the world celebrate this beloved Agave spirit from Mexico. Whether you’re making a Margarita, a Paloma or Cantaritos, it’s the perfect day to sip these classic cocktails.
But, here at Absolut, in the spirit of doing things differently, we’re putting a twist on these three cocktails. This National Tequila Day, we’re excited to show you how to make these beloved Tequila drinks using three different vodka flavors instead!
So, without further ado…
The Swedish Paloma
Love grapefruit? Us too! This vodka version a Paloma uses Absolut Grapefruit instead of Tequila and mixes Fresh Ruby Red Grapefruit together with Soda Water instead of Grapefruit Soda. We call it The Swedish Paloma, and wow, what a drink it is!
To make the Swedish Paloma, fill your cocktail shaker with ice cubes, then add 1 ½ parts Absolut Grapefruit, 1 ½ parts of Ruby Grapefruit Juice, and ¼ part Lime Juice. Unsure what a cocktail part is? No worries, check out our article where we explain how to make cocktails using parts.
Next, give it a good shake then strain into a Highball Glass, top up with Soda Water and garnish with a Grapefruit Wedge.
Crisp and clean, it’s a favorite summer sipper here at Absolut.
Absolut Mango Margarita
Next up, we’ve got the Absolut Mango Margarita. That’s right, it’s a Mango Magarita made with Absolut Mango.
If you’ve ever been to Mexico, you’ll know that mangoes are immensely popular, as are Mango Margaritas, which makes our Mango-Flavored Vodka the perfect choice for this cocktail.
Mix 1 part Absolut Mango , 1 part Fresh Lime Juice , ½ a part Triple Sec and ½ part of Mango Purée together with ice cubes in a cocktail shaker. Shake until chilled then strain into a chilled cocktail glass. The result? A smooth, juicy tropical delight that retains the zesty character of a classic Margarita.
Absolut Peppar Cantaritos
Last but certainly not least we’ve for a Cantaritos made with vodka, which we call the Absolut Peppar Cantaritos. Why? Because we swap Tequila for Absolut Peppar, our deliciously spicy Black-Pepper Flavored Vodka.
“With Absolut Peppar, you get the crisp flavor of cracked Black Pepper, which is immense and works phenomenally in this drink,” says Ricardo ‘Rico’ Dynan, Bartender and Absolut Global Brand Ambassador.
This is an easy to make ‘built drink’, which means everything is built in the glass. And who doesn’t love easy to make drinks that you can whip up for parties without any shaking or blending?
So, grab a glass, rim it with Tajin Spice, and then fill it with ice cubes. Next add 1 part Absolut Peppar, 1 ½ parts Orange Juice, ½ part Lime Juice and ¾ part Grapefruit Juice . Next top it up with Grapefruit Soda and garnish with a Lime Wedge. There you have it – your new favorite summer drink!
“I wouldn’t be disappointed if I got this Vodka version instead of Tequila, even in Mexico,” says Rico. Neither we would, Rico! Sip and enjoy!
