Crafting Absolut Vodka is a holistic journey born from our Swedish tradition in vodka-making commitment to our source and community. Having One Source and One Community means we respectfully control the entire process from seed to bottle, tracing the very product that is in your hand all the way back to our farmers.
One source is our production philosophy, meaning that every aspect of our production journey takes place in and around the small village of Åhus, Sweden. All ingredients for Absolut Vodka are sourced from southern Sweden. Every drop of water and every seed of wheat comes from one water source, one village and one community. It is called One Source, the reason why no matter where you are in the world Absolut will always have the same high quality.
By continuously improving and keeping focus on how we can be more sustainable we have made our distillery one of the most energy-efficient in the world*. Today, we have CO2 neutral distillation; a fact we’re proud of.

We only use hardy winter wheat from the area surrounding Åhus in Southern Sweden where there is no GMO wheat to be found. The fertile fields in southern Sweden are ideal for growing wheat, with yields more than twice as high as the global average. It also affords us the most consistent quality we can source.
60% of vodka is pure water after all, so it’s kind of a big deal. That’s why we always tap it locally from our own wells, that are more than 140 meters deep. The water has been filtered through the Swedish bedrock for thousands of years. This level of purity means we need less processing. It gives a natural mouthfeel that you can’t create in a lab.
We have produced vodka in Åhus for more than 100 years, and we believe that creating vodka of impeccable quality requires shared values. It requires trust in traditions and knowledge that have been passed down through generations of farmers and distillers.
The winter wheat is sown, grown, harvested and delivered by our community of approx. 338 farms in the region of Skåne, Sweden. And we know them all by name, like Torgil, Gudrun and Henrik. With shared values in terms of quality and sustainability, we work together to promote sustainable farming techniques, ensuring the best quality wheat, while at the same time improving our impact on our community. We don’t do this to be on trend, we do it because this is our backyard. And we’ve always done it this way.
We don’t like to waste a thing. From our raw spirit distillation we get a by-product called stillage or drank in Swedish. It’s rich in protein, so we feed 290000 pigs and cows in our near surroundings. Every day.
And just like the other ingredients, even the glass bottles are made in our community, at a nearby glasswork in Limmared. They deliver empty Absolut Vodka bottles every 3 hours to our bottling plants, arriving just in time for them being bottled up. The bottles today have more than 40% recycled clear glass.
Absolut strives towards a global system where resources are circular and benefitting local systems.
Crafting the world’s finest vodka is a holistic journey borne from our Swedish tradition in vodka making, commitment to our source and community. Having One Source and One Community means we respectfully control the entire process from seed to bottle. This means tracing the exact bottle in your hand all the way back to a group of farmers.
The distillery and production process built and managed by our own talented people is what influences the overall taste and flavor of our vodka. The fact that the distillery was designed and now managed by our own talent is an influencing factor to our distillery being one of the most energy-efficient in the world. The yeast we use in our fermentation process is our own yeast strain. It works like a fingerprint, giving the vodka a unique flavor profile. We later distill and rectify our spirit hundreds of times to create the unique character our final product are known for worldwide.
