As one of the first spirits brand to publicly support the LGBTQ community nearly 40 years ago, Absolut is proud to be known for celebrating diversity, inclusivity and equality. In 1981 we began supporting the LGBTQ community with advertising in LGBTQ publications, when associating with this community was still seen as challenging for most brands.

In support of equality

Our founding father, L.O. Smith, was a progressive who imbued the spirit of equality into the very DNA of the Absolut brand. Smith believed in the freedom of expression, but above all, advocated equal love —demonstrated in his support of his daughter’s marriage to a Turkish prince. At the time, quite a radical belief. Looking to the future, Absolut has strived to uphold L.O. Smith’s spirit of supporting equal love—firm in the belief this can lead to a better, more open world.
