Reducing emissions of greenhouse gases and curbing global warming are the biggest environmental challenges facing the world today. ABSOLUT and our parent company, V&S Vin & Sprit, is committed to increasing its efforts to meet these challenges.

Our strategy for reducing our climate impact starts with reducing our emissions of CO2. ABSOLUT Vodka is the first company in the spirits industry to introduce carbon offsetting as part of its environmental work. CO2 emissions related to our production are being offset by planting trees in certified forests in Africa and South America, corresponding to the emissions released from our plants. Since 2003, ABSOLUT has reduced its carbon dioxide emissions by 60 percent per liter vodka. Today, ABSOLUT has one of the world's most energy efficient distilleries, decreased its use of energy by 30 percent through a very high level of energy recovery and reduced its use of fossil fuel.

Absolut is also working to contribute to sustainable agriculture by placing demands on our suppliers to provide environmentally friendly raw ingredients for use in our products. These demands include minimizing amounts of nitrogen that leak into the soil, efficient use of fertilizers, and reduced use of pesticides.
In 2003 ABSOLUT implemented sustainable agricultural practices. Today 100% of ABSOLUT® vodkas are made of 100% Concept cultivated wheat.

Optimized use of resources entails not consuming more resources than necessary, choosing environmentally sustainable alternatives and re-using materials or energy in generated waste. ABSOLUT strives to optimize its use of natural resources, and to choose eco-friendly alternatives as far as possible. As an example, the ABSOLUT bottle is made of 43% recycled glass. ABSOLUT is determined to continuously reduce packaging, increase the re-use of transport packaging and improve waste separation at source, and to find a market for waste products. An example; wet stillage, a residual product from spirits production, has a high energy and nutritional content, making it valuable for local farmers as animal feed. ABSOLUT's degree of recycling is currently 99.7%.
