* Absolut cannot guarantee your life actually changing

Wondering what to listen to post-Serial? Don’t be left in the podcast-shaped lurch, the DIY radio of the Internet is having a bona fide moment.

Did he? Didn’t he? Is Serial the best podcast of all time? The real life crime serial not only became the fastest to reach 5million downloads in iTunes history, but leaves a trail of questions behind. However, our big question is ‘What do I listen to now?’

To celebrate the format's true coming of age—it is indeed ''golden''—here’s a list of seven of the best podcasts to get you as addicted as we are.

The American Life

What’s it all about:

One of the original podcasts, this channel is dedicated to well produced real-life stories.

Why we love it:

Ira Glass’ gentle and reliably nasal staple of a voice, arguably the voice of podcasts.

Our favourite episode:

Dr. Gilmer and Mr. Hyde

Dinner Party Download

What’s it all about:

A fast and funny hour of culture, food and conversation.

Why we love it:

The dinner-party format. The trivia. The music. Hilarious etiquette advice. Top-notch dinner guests that include the likes of Kevin Spacey and Molly Ringwald.

Our favourite episode:

Dame Edna answering the etiquette questions in episode 289 or Jessie Ware talking us through her dinner party playlist.

Bullseye

What’s it about:

The ultimate bluffers guide to what’s happening in popular culture, Bullseye depicts what's good and what you need to know.

Try the ‘Best of Comedy 2014 Special’

99percentinvisible

What’s it all about:

Host Roman Mars devotes full episodes to subtly life-defining topics such as the history of Wonder Bread, the social impact of cul-de-sacs, or where clicking noises on our phone come from. You know, essential life topics.

Why We Love It:

It’s the BEST radio show on topics you didn’t know you needed to know, ya know?

Our favourite episode:

Episode 15, Sounds of the Artificial World. Roman explores the art of designing the clicking, beeps and chimes our beloved gadgets make.

LOVE+RADIO

What’s it all about:

In-depth, otherworldly-produced interviews with an eclectic range of subjects, from the seedy to the sublime, LOVE+RADIO has won awards and critical acclaim.

Why we love it:

The stark and raw storytelling weaves intimate interviews and emotions in a genius-like manner, episode after episode.

Our favourite episode:

Jay Thunderbolt is a memorable episode, and a good starter listen.

WTF

What’s it about:

This show leads the flock of comedians interviewing other celebrities. Host Marc Maron is so frank about the trail of destruction in his life, his guests can’t help but be the same.

Why we love it:

The ‘comedian’s therapist’ vibe mixed with his high-profile roster of interviewees.

Our favourite episode:

Lena Dunham’s spot on the show, our favourite over-sharer.

Serial

What’s it all about:

Okay, we are cheating with this one as it has been hot on everybody’s lips for some time, but in case you haven’t stumbled upon it, this is a must listen to for a forage into whether Adnan Syed, who has been in jail for over ten years, is actually guilty of the murder he is imprisoned for. Expect plenty twists and plenty turns.

Why we love it:

The emotional roller coaster, the speculation, the obsession…and let’s not forget the MailChimp sponsor ad at the beginning (“Mail…cimp?”).

Our favourite episode:

The controversial ending of the final episode, we won’t spoil it for future listeners.
