• 5 Things We Love About Art Basel Miami

Art Basel Miami Beach is back and it’s time to embrace the warmer weather and all that South Beach has to offer. In a fast changing city, here is our list of Miami staples – the things that we look forward to year after year.

Local Flair

Puerto Sagua
Without mincing words, it’s straight-up the best Cuban diner in South Beach Miami. This hole-in-the-wall is always packed, and if you can snag a spot at the counter, you’re in for a treat.

Joe’s Stone Crab
This palatial seafood shack is well worth the journey through South Beach. Head down for a lobster roll and escape of the fairs, crowds and chaos.

Updated Pool Lounging

No place quite like a pool to recharge after the long nights that make up Art Basel Miami Beach. Whether you’re relaxing at the Art Deco lounge at The Raleigh, sipping cocktails at The Standard Spa, listening to live DJ sets at the “diamond in a rough” that is the Deauville Hotel, or catching rays at Ian Schrager’s newest project, Edition, you won’t want to recharge anywhere else.

Skipping out on South Beach

It’s easy to fall victim to the crowds and endless tents of art fairs in South Beach. For a change of pace, make your way to the galleries and outdoor exhibitions that cover the walls and the streets of Wynwood, the latest upcoming arts district for impressive wall murals and outdoor installations by the biggest names in street art.

Even More Art: Satellite Fairs

With almost a dozen official art fairs, gallery events and pop-up shows, it’s hard to find the time to do it all. One of our favorite things about Art Basel Miami Beach are the satellite art fairs that line the streets and take over hotels.

Stop by Scope (1001 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach) which includes work by young artists, notable exhibitions from Korean gallerists and a special curated show from the legendary hip-hop producer and collector Swizz Beatz. Then head around the corner to the massive 40,000 square foot tent that makes up SELECT Art Fair and discover this year’s special projects. The team behind NADA Miami Beach returned to the ballrooms and beachside tents at the Deauville Hotel with a show of Lower East Side galleries. Aqua Art Miami is celebrating their tenth anniversary at the Aqua Hotel (1530 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach). And be sure to get your underground fix with INK Miami Art Fair at the Suites of Dorchester Hotel (1850 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach) for an impressive curation of smaller-scale prints.

Celebrity Sightings and Street Style

For seven days, Miami is flooded with the world’s top artists, musicians, stylists and publishing world personalities. You may run into Solange Knowles grabbing her morning coffee on Ocean Drive, or bump into Alicia Keys as she wanders the tents at Scope.

Keep your style on point as the world is watching. This year, it’s all about proportions and glam accessories. We spoke to Artist Chloe Wise on what she can’t leave New York without: her list includes an assortment of choker-necklaces for “casual-misguided-dominatrix-beach-goth-poolside looks”, big pants with tiny tops, Glossier’s Balm Dotcom and Kiehl’s Moisturizer to keep up her tan.
