The First Night
“Bodies International wants you to perspire to greatness!” called out the gold-haired member of Bodies International, the artistic aerobics performance group that kicked off the opening party of ‘Night Court’. As part of the show, the group taught guests a few basic dancercise steps to help them feeling fit through the coming days of art.
After everyone mastered their moves, they headed over to the bar for a Modernade, an And One, a Blood of a Champion, or a Winning Spirit — unique cocktails developed for the event.
The dancers and cocktails were both part of a full experience curated by artist Ry Rocklen to complement his art bar installation, which will be open for all of Art Basel in Miami. In addition to his careful staging, Rocklen has also chosen a headlining performer for each day.
For the opening night, gender bending rapper Mykki Blanco brought his pounding beats to the stage – loud enough that guests of a event next door came over the check out the show accompanying the music they could hear from afar. It was a perfect opportunity for everyone to try out their newly learned dance-moves.
