Absolut Art Ambassador: Fall Ball Down the Rabbit Hole

When creative minds meet in creative spaces, all bets are off.

This year, innovative New York nonprofit Creative Time set up residence in the avant-garde multifunctional workspace Neuehouse for their annual Fall Ball. Promising “the unexpected” for guests willing to “check their inhibitions at the door,” Creative Time not only delivered on all their promises, but transcended the conventional limits of what a dance party can be.Co-sponsored by Absolut and artnet, the evening felt more like a journey to a surreal, disco-lit planet than a Saturday night out in New York City. The bonanza featured eye-popping installations from the art world’s elite and rising talents alongside pulsing DJ sets that charmed even the shyest attendees into wild dancing.

Framed by two glittering diamond piñatas designed by CONFETTISYSTEM, alt-pop extraordinaire Caroline Polachek (Ramona Lisa, Chairlift) started the evening off with her rousing and delightfully bizarre music curation. Her set was followed by Parisian DJ Joakim’s synthy infusions, and the energy kept mounting as Teengirl Fantasy, Justin Strauss, and Doss each took turns before the crowd.

Below the dance-floor, the candlelit basement at Neuehouse offered an orange marmalade infused slushy cocktail bar, a private screening room of installation gurus Jonah Freeman and Justin Lowe’s video montage, and a multi-channel Marco Brambilla piece featuring a young Jessica Lange alongside King Kong. Exclusive art installations and delectable drinks made it the perfect swanky respite after a bout of feverish dancing.

Under the glow of colored lasers and neon lights, guests determined the trajectory of their own fun-making. Whether alongside the massive glow-in-the-dark ouija board by FCKNLZ collective, video-gaming in a glass-enclosed room with two men dressed as Luigi and Pokemon, dancing uninhibitedly in the crowd, or stealing away to the darkened cinema, Creative Time Fall Ball partygoers found that the recipe for a perfect celebration consisted of playful art, great company, and incredible cocktails.
